Love at the Electric

GENRE:   Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

Walking wildfire Sam Owens gets Lillian hot in all the right ways, but there's more to the software CEO than just a pretty face. And a great body. And… Oh, right. He’s the enemy, according to the contract she signed with his rival. So when they secretly meet up for movies at The Electric, Lillian can't get too involved with Sam. She could lose her job. Her reputation. And her heart.

Sam is in love with his company, his image, his video games, and his ability to avoid commitment--at least until he levels up with attorney Lillian Walker. With her love of campy horror flicks and a body that makes him want to howl like a cartoon wolf, Sam’s found his leading lady. Too bad getting close to Lillian means tangling with her boss, a supervillain in the making.

In the nights leading up to Christmas, movies at The Electric mean more than just mutant toads and cannibal fruitcakes. Between shenanigans with old flames and an arch nemesis out to destroy any future they might have, Sam and Lillian learn the hard way that falling in love isn’t as easy as it looks on screen. When the past gets in the way of a perfect “the end,” there’s really only one solution--if werewolf Santas can bring them together, zombie ex-girlfriends can keep them together.

After all, anything’s possible at The Electric.

“I ship you guys now,” Ravi said, out of the blue.

“What?”

“Shipping. Fandom. It means I’m invested in seeing you two kids stick together. So I heart your relationship. Sam’s attitude sucked for so long, but since meeting you, he’s really coming around. That’s why I want to move forward with this gaming division now. He’s like a newborn. Soft and big-eyed and completely vulnerable.”

“There isn’t a relationship at the moment. It’s kind of a work-in-progress.”

“Everything’s a work-in-progress. If it weren’t, nothing would improve. Sam’s improved a lot.”

Lillian sighed. “That’s true. But this time, the problem isn’t Sam. It’s me.” Suddenly embarrassed, she groaned and shielded her eyes with her hands to avoid Ravi’s intense gaze. “Ignore me. Please.”

“You don’t know me well enough yet to make me shut up so, no. Not going to ignore you, and I’m going to tell you what I think. You’re running bad code.”

Her eyes darted up from beneath her palm shield. “I don’t consider myself an idiot but, what?”

“Okay, coding is all about input and output. To input tense code… I mean, inputting good code produces the desired output. If my code is bad, I get a demented program. You only get what you put in, so if you’re only giving Sam part of your code, or only bad code, then he can’t give you what you want because he can’t debug your issues. He has to see all of it to understand.”

REVIEW

 *4 stars *

Sam & Lillian were great together. Their time together was fun and sexy all rolled into one. I liked that they are little forbidden, considering she works for the enemy so to speak. I really enjoyed their journey to building their bond together. The story was well written with so many emotional twists. A great romance with  amazing characters.

Player, an all-new sexy, standalone romantic comedy from Staci Hart, is coming October 11th!

Player by Staci Hart
Publishing Date: October 11, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Photographer: Periwinkle Photographer

He’s a player.

He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.
Who better to teach me to play than the master himself?

I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick.

But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.

There’s so much I don’t know.
Like the fact that I’m only a bet.

But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through.
And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.

About the Author
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics. StaciHart.jpg

Nicole Graves finds herself in the crosshairs when she reluctantly agrees to babysit a witness in a high-profile rape trial. Mary Ellen Barnes is suing her university’s star quarterback for rape when the authorities won’t act. In the court of public opinion, Mary Ellen appears to be the quintessential, pious, good girl. But her lies and mysterious comings and goings lead Nicole to suspect that she’s not what she seems.

Read an Excerpt

Nicole called Detective Martinez. They agreed to meet at the morgue in an hour.

Nicole brushed her teeth, washed her face, and dabbed on some lipstick. Once she was in the car, she headed for the Hollywood Freeway, which would take her to East L.A. and Boyle Heights, where the morgue was located. She prayed that it was a mistake, that this body wasn’t Mary Ellen.

The coroner’s office had moved since Nicole’s visit years before. It was now housed in a grim, three-story building that loomed over several smaller wooden structures in the same complex. Nicole had read somewhere that the main building had once been Los Angeles General Hospital. With its brick façade, dingy gingerbread trim, and cupola-topped entry, it looked like a nineteenth-century madhouse.

She got out of the car and climbed the stairs to the entrance. She told a man at the front desk that she was meeting Detective Martinez, and he asked her to take a seat. The lobby was enormous, dimly lit, and filled with rows of wooden benches. They reminded her of the seating in a church, and she wondered if services had once been held here. More likely, it served as the old hospital’s waiting room. She perched on one of the benches; it was hard and cold. A notice on the wall said that the use of mobile devices was prohibited, and she dutifully turned off her phone.

The building was cool, and, to Nicole’s relief, the only discernable smell was a mixture of disinfectant and floor wax. It made her wonder where they kept the bodies—perhaps in one of the out buildings. The huge, gloomy room gave her a sense of unreality. This couldn’t have happened. Mary Ellen couldn’t possibly be lying in cold storage somewhere nearby.

I wanted the sassy little filly the second I first saw her. So I bought her.

Caleb

I had all the success that a self-made man like me could want. But something was still missing. Ready for a break, I returned to my home town to find myself.
And found her.
Riley-Ann.
The sassy, curvy bartender-slash-waitress at the local watering hole, with a body made just for me.
But as it turned out, she was the only woman around to turn me down. And a virgin.
That's why I put in a bid for her at the county fair auction.
And nothing was going to stop me from winning my virgin.

Riley-Ann
I thought my life was finally on the right track, then it all fell apart.
Booted from the only promising office manager job I ever wanted, I turned tail and took a break from everything at my best friend's ranch.
The local saloon was hiring, so I got a job to keep my mind and my hands occupied.
Until he showed up.
Caleb Jackson Reeves.
The biggest name in business around these parts sat down at my bar. He was larger than life, older, wiser, and hot as hell.
And the square-jawed, ruggedly handsome older man wanted me.
I was in no state to deal with anything else in my life right now, not even him. Not his gifts, not his attention, not even the smoldering kiss he planted on me without my asking him to. The one I had to deny enjoying so much.
Except the first chance he got, he made a bid for me at the county fair auction. And he won.
Now, I was bought and paid for, and he wasn't about to let me say no twice.

Warning. This hot and dirty western romance is steamy, spicy, and chock full of feels. If you like slightly over the top romance stories with a big strong alpha male who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to ask for it, this is for you! Standalone romance with no cliffhanger and a sweet happily ever after to make you swoon.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Ms. Romance, Hannah Arden, writes one of the top read relationship advice columns in the nation. Mr. Reality, Brooks North, writes the top read relationship advice column.

Ms. Romance believes in true love and soul mates. Mr. Reality believes love is a term humanity has assigned to the primal instinct to procreate. She believes in fate—he in chance. She knows there’s one right person for everyone—he knows there are multiple ones. The two writers couldn’t be more polarized on relationships. They’re professional rivals, and philosophical antagonists.

For eight years, their battles have been fought with words and ink. That changes when they apply for the same position at the World Times and find themselves face-to-face for the first time. Brooks isn’t the sour-faced, antiquity of a man Hannah pictured. And Hannah isn’t exactly the middle-aged shrew with cat hair on her housedress that Brooks imagined either.

In lieu of competing for the promotion traditional ways, the two writers are presented with playing the leading roles in a social experiment unlike any before. Can a person be tricked into falling in love? Can a relationship be crafted under the right string of circumstances? Hannah knows the answer. So does Brooks.

Agreeing to the terms, the two set out on a three-month dating experiment, live-streamed for the world to watch. All Hannah has to do to win is not fall in love with the narcissistic brute. All Brooks has to do is get the starry-eyed dreamer to fall in love with him. Both are so confident in their philosophies, they expect the challenge to be easy.

With the world watching, Brooks and Hannah will be forced to confront their beliefs and conclude, once and for all, who’s right. The answer is one neither of them saw coming.

“Where do you think you’re going?”
I jolted. Brooks had an annoying talent of being able to appear out of thin air. “As far away from this dance floor as I can get.”
“But we haven’t danced yet.” Brooks crept in front of my path, forcing me to stop or crash into him.
Braking to a stop, I shot him a look. “I’ll be sure to shed some tears for that later. When I’m asleep.”
“Someone’s notably grumpier now than they were earlier.” His eyes narrowed in an investigative kind of way. “Methinks you weren’t totally forthcoming about you minding if I danced with other women.”
The cameraman was leaning in, our ever-present third wheel, but I didn’t feel the need to lower my voice. “Methinks you were onto something when you expressed trepidation over your manhood’s functioning properties after tonight.”
Brooks let out a low whistle. “Under the right circumstances, those words, from that mouth, would be such a turn-on.”
“The right circumstances being what? Your standing appointment with a dungeon and a dominatrix?”
One dark brow lifted. “Bad kitty.”
“No. Grumpy cat.” I circled my face before going around him.
His arm whipped out, cinching around my waist to draw me back to him. “Let’s see if I can help with that.” His hand found mine, lifting it, while his other secured at my back, bringing me closer. And closer.
And . . .
“Brooks,” I hissed, remembering the camera before I put into words what I’d just felt.
He didn’t appear the slightest bit fazed. “What was that about my functioning manhood?”
“I don’t want to feel it digging into my stomach when I’m trying to focus on tangoing.”
“Then you shouldn’t have worn that dress.”
“And we’ll lump that in the category known as victim-blaming,” I muttered, trying to ignore the hard swell rubbing against my midsection.
“It’s not your fault my dick has a thing for your dress.” Brooks didn’t lower his voice at all. “It’s his fault, one hundred and ten percent. Total case of dick-blaming right here.”
