Rose

I was on my way to an appointment when my car broke down. I found myself stranded in the middle of nowhere.

It was late, dark, and I swore I heard something in the woods.

And then he came along, this towering beast of a man who claimed he wouldn’t let anything hurt me, that he’d protect me at all costs … because I was his.

Sexy. Deadly. All male.

But the one thing on my mind was who would protect me from him?

Logan

Rose thought she was lost but the truth was she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

With me.

She needed my help and I was happy to oblige. But I wasn’t being a good samaritan. She was my mate and I was going to claim her.

The only obstacle I saw was her willingness to see that she was made to be mine, that giving herself fully to me was exactly how fate had written our story.

But I had all the time in the world because when it came to Rose nothing else mattered.

He’s a player.
He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.

Who better to teach me to play than the master himself?

I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick.

But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.

There’s so much I don’t know.
Like the fact that I’m only a bet.
But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through.

And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.

Excerpt:
The night flew by, time speeding up and sliding past with nothing to mark the hours but his laughter and my smiles and our bodies bouncing around the parquet like we had nothing in the world to do but dance. I had no idea how late it was until “New York, New York” came on with the house lights. Sam hooked me under his arm and guided me out into the chilly fall evening. Like an idiot, I’d come without a jacket, and I tried to play it off like I wasn’t cold. A shiver wracked down my spine, betraying me. He shrugged off his leather jacket. “Here, wear this.” “B-but then y-you’ll be cold,” I said, shifting away from him in an effort to stop him. “Look, it’s n-not even cold. It’s f-fake cold. It’s only what—like, sixty out? M-my body is j-just being drunk and d-dumb.” “Val.” The word was a gentle warning. He held out his jacket like a matador. “Put it on.” “N-no,” I said with a laugh. He shook it once like he was taunting me. “Toro.” I giggled, stumbling a little as I brought my hands to the top of my head, pointer fingers to the stars. “Olé!” I cheered as I charged. But instead of running through his jacket, I found myself in his arms. I didn’t know how it happened. The jacket was there, and then it was gone. But instead of being laid out on the sidewalk like I should have been, Sam’s arms were hooked around my waist, our bodies winding together and twisting from the force of his catch. And then I looked up, and time stretched out in a long, still moment. His eyes on my mouth. Mine on his. His nose millimeters from mine and his mouth so close, if I turned my head just right, our lips would brush. The warmth of him was everywhere. I wasn’t cold anymore. I was on fire. So I said the first thing that entered my empty mind. “Are you going to kiss me, or am I gonna have to lie to my diary?” The moment broke with our laughter, filled the air around us, stopped my chugging heart. He pressed his lips to my forehead. I sighed. “I guess that’ll do.” He hooked his jacket over my shoulders, taking a moment to look over my face, watching his fingers as he tucked a loose curl behind my ear. “Come on. Let’s get you home. You did good tonight, Val.” “Thanks to your expert advice.” But he smiled. “Pretty soon, you’ll figure out you didn’t need me at all.” And I smiled back and pretended like it was possible that statement held an iota of truth.

A bet between his friend has him going after Val, but he is protecting her. They soon start out as friend and he is coaching her on dating, then they take the education to a sexual level. Soon, the bet is over and Sam discovers his true feelings for Val but is it too late.

This story knocked me off my feet. Wow a truly incredible fun delicious story with so much laughter. This was absolutely one of my favorites. Just like all other books by Staci Hart, the story draws you in with a fun easy going storyline. Amazing characters who you never want to finish their story because they are just that good. I highly recommend this one!

She wanted happily ever after.
He thought he had it.

Underneath the perfect exterior of Calista Bennett’s marriage lay an ugly truth that threatens to drown her when she is betrayed.

Across town, Nickolas Mikos isn’t doing much better after his life is plunged into his new reality by his wife’s lies.

Life can change in the blink of an eye. Can Cali and Nick comfort each other’s raw pain enough to allow for a second chance at happiness, or will their fears and anger prevent them from uncovering the blessing in the betrayal?

The vodka had done its job. Cali drifted in and out of a fitful sleep while curled up on the floor of the closet. It was after midnight when she found herself awake again, unable to get back to sleep. She had only a long, lonely night to look forward to.

Cali wasn’t sure of her plan until she found herself sitting behind Kevin’s large desk again. She moved on autopilot as she looked up Nicholas Mikos in her husband’s contact list. It wasn’t surprising to find it there, they had worked together after all. She had had just enough vodka to dull her decision-making ability.

It rang several times before a masculine voice answered. “Hello?”

What the hell was she doing? She was about to hang up when he spoke again. “Who’s there? If this is another reporter looking for a story, fuck off.”

He sounded so angry. He deserved to be angry. So did she.

“Nick?” Her voice was barely a whisper, but he heard.

“Cali?”

She held her breath. Unsure if she should answer.

He persisted “Cali? Is that you?”

“Yes.” She’d been so angry before the call. Why were tears prickling her eyes at the sound of his voice?

He sighed. “I’m glad you called. I’ve wanted to call you a few times but didn’t have your number. And I didn’t know... well... you know.”

“Unfortunately, I do know.” They let a long awkward silence stretch out.

He broke the quiet. “I’ve been worried about you. How are you?”

“Probably about the same as you.”

“That bad, eh?” He tried to laugh it off. It sounded strained. They fell into silence again.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know why I called. I’ll let you go.” Cali felt foolish for calling.

“Please. Don’t go.” She heard a familiar desperation in his voice.

“What do you want me to say, Nick? Anything we talk about is only going to make us feel worse.”

“I don’t think so. I hate it, but you’re the only person who could possibly understand what it’s like. You’re a beautiful, smart woman. You didn’t deserve this to happen to you, Cali. I want you to know that.”

The tears she had been holding back fell fast. She hadn’t thought he could say anything to make her feel better, but she’d been wrong. He had somehow known exactly what she’d needed to hear.

“Thank you for saying that,” she answered through her tears. “You certainly didn’t deserve this either. No one knows what to say, you know? They either avoid me or try to cheer me up. They don’t know that maybe I need to wallow for a while, you know?”

“Boy, do I ever. I finally went into the office today, and it was brutal.”

“I went back to school today, too. Brutal is the perfect word.”

“Is that why you called?”

Cali debated lying, but then she’d be doing to him what his wife had done. As ugly as the truth was, he deserved to hear it. “No. Not really.”

“Well, I’m glad you did.”

“I bet you wouldn’t be if you’d found what I found tonight.”

He hesitated. He must have been deciding if he wanted her to continue. “Maybe you should tell me and let me be the judge of that.”

“There’ll be no unhearing the words once they’re said,” she tried to warn him.

“Just like there will be no bringing them back.”

“Would you want to even if you could?” Cali asked curiously.

She started to wonder if the call had dropped. He finally answered. “Would it make me a monster if I said no?”

“No, it makes you human. I might have said yes yesterday, but not tonight. Tonight, I hope they’re rotting in hell.”

Nick whistled the surprised kind of whistle. “That doesn’t sound good. Maybe you’re right. Maybe I don’t want to know.” He hesitated. “Like it or not, I need to know. I’m tired of the secrets—of the lies. I found a couple credit cards I didn’t know about last week. A nice little fifteen-thousand-dollar fuck-you courtesy of my wife from her grave.”

“Don’t scare me. I haven’t even braved the finance crap yet." She hoped she didn’t have more surprises waiting for her there. “I’ve just been paying a few bills I know about. I’m dreading it. I know I’ll have to tackle it soon.”

“So if not finances, what did you find?”

“You’re sure?”

“Positive.”

She took a deep breath. “How long do you think they were seeing each other?”

He answered quickly. “Well since they met at the holiday...” his voice trailed off. He never finished his thought.

“Try a bit longer.”

“Goddamn her. How do you know?”

“I finally got logged onto his personal laptop. He had a backup file of his phone. It was how I got to his contact list. Do you have her cell phone? If you do, you could find it all too.”

“No. I never found her phone. I assumed she had it with her, and it was destroyed in the accident.”

“How much do you want to know?”

“I want it all. The truth for once.”

“I found stuff going back at least six months. I’m not sure how it started, but I found emails, texts, photos... you name it. They communicated almost daily.” She had expected him to be angry. She hadn’t expected silence.

“Nick? Are you still there?” When he didn’t reply, she tried again. “I’m so sorry. I should never have told you.”

“You did the right thing, Cali.” She heard the barely contained rage in his voice. “I just don’t know if I can believe it. I mean... not that you... I’d just like to think I would have noticed something like that, you know?”

It was Cali’s turn to get angry. “You better not be insinuating I’m lying to you. I’m not Veronica. Not every woman is a lying bitch.”

He sighed. “I wasn’t trying to imply you were lying. It’s just so... I didn’t think it could get any worse. I was wrong.”

“Honestly, as much as I hurt now, I think this will help me get over him sooner. Kevin was a bit like Jekyll and Hyde. He could be so charming when he wanted to be. The next minute he could call me every condescending name he could think of while...” She cut herself off. She wasn’t ready to share how abusive Kevin could get.

“While he what, Cali?”

“Nothing. It’s not important now. I’m sorry if this news hurt you, but I just know if you’d found this evidence, I would have wanted you to share it with me, you know? I’m so tired of his lies.”

“Cali, would you consider having dinner with me some time? Before you think I’m coming on to you or something, I’m not. I’d just like to talk with you more. I think we could help each other through some of the shit, you know? Maybe you could bring his laptop along and let me see some of the messages?”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Nick.”

“Which part? Dinner or the laptop?”

“Both.”

“Please. Friday night. I can have Andi sleepover at her best friend’s house.”

“Let me think about it, okay?”

“Okay. Is this your cell phone you called from?”

“Yes.”

“Then we’ll talk later in the week. Think about it, Cali. It would mean a lot to me.”

“Goodnight, Nick.”

Raised in California, I’m a crunchy mom, save the whales and the rain forests, hippy. I married a sexy man in uniform who let me spawn and am now raising a mutinous army of hell raisers that I created myself, all while he defends our country. I drink too much coffee until it's late enough to drink too much wine and am sexually frustrated for your freedom. If you see me online, I'm probably sitting in a closet, hiding from my kids.

About AJ Alexander Fluent in sarcasm, Supernatural, and song lyrics, I like talking to people and finding what makes them tick, though that probably has to do with the Psychology degree. I’m up before the sun because my kids don’t sleep, chugging tea and coffee to keep my eyes open and my brain semi functional. Being married to a man in uniform means I’ve lived a lot of places, survived seeing my husband for half the amount of time I’ve been married, and spent a lot of time raising my kids alone. I love to write messed up psychos with lots of angst, happily ever afters that have to be worked for. Women with sass and backbone, men with a twisted hero complex and the need to control are my favorite to read as well as write.

EXCERPT

COLE I lay on her bed and wait. Watching Addy, with her fingers buried deep in her pussy while calling out my name was beautiful. There are no other words to describe it, just thinking about it once again has me palming my cock through my jeans. I’m going to fuck her into submission, she will be mine. She just doesn’t know it yet. “How did you get in here?” Addy comes sashing out of the bathroom, her skin glistening in the sunlight. My mouth waters as I think of licking the drops of water from her skin, “I’m the dog walker, remember?” I hold up my spare key. “Your Aunt gave me a key.” She turns to head into the closet, I’m assuming to get dressed. “Who said you could get dressed.” I immediately climb off the bed and follow her into the closet. She swings around, freezing me in place with her eyes. If looks could kill, I would be dead right now. Unfortunately, that look has the opposite effect on me than intended. I want her more now than I did yesterday. “Cole, let’s get one thing straight. We fucked last night, that’s it. Nothing more nothing less. If you think you have any claim over me, your wrong. Do us both a favor and leave me alone.” She turns around and continues searching for clothes, grabbing her arm I spin her around and use my body to force her backward toward the wall of the closet. My left-hand reaches out, sweeping clothes out the way, so I have space to pin her to the wall with my body. Running my nose along the curve of her neck, I feel a shiver run through her body before I take a bite of her ear. “I said I wasn’t done with you.” Letting go of her arm, my right-hand rips the towel from between us and I slide my hand down her body. Skimming my finger between her lips, she is already wet for me. “Your pussy belongs to me now. The sooner you realize that, the better it will be for both of us.” Using my foot, I widen her legs so I can slide my fingers into her hot core. She moans in pleasure as I curl my fingers, brushing against the bundle of nerves that I know will have her seeing stars in no time. Slowly, I pump in and out of her pussy, getting a steady rhythm, as I grind my rock-hard cock into her stomach. Sensing my need, Addy reaches down to unbuckle my jeans and releases my cock. She licks her hand from wrist to the tip of her fingers, before gripping my cock tightly and stroking me in the perfect rhythm. “Please.” Addy grips my cock tighter in her hand. “So now you beg for me? I thought it was just a quick fuck, nothing more.” I pull my fingers from her pussy and slip them into my mouth licking them clean. Releasing her grip on my cock, I see fire in her eyes. “Either fuck me or get out. I don’t have time for your bullshit.” “Oh, I’ll fuck you. Beg me.” I started tucking my cock back into my jeans. I almost whimper in pain as I start to zipper and button them up, I want to pound her pussy into submission, but I don’t beg. I never have and never will, she needs to understand who she belongs too. “I won’t beg.” “Well, then you don’t get my cock, darlin’. You know where to find me when you’re ready to admit who your pussy belongs to.” With a herculean effort, I turn to leave, but before I do, I check the top drawer of her dresser. I originally was looking for another set of panties, but what I found was an even better prize. Right on top, is an assortment of dildos, vibrators, and special lubricants. “I’m taking these with me. The only dick that’s going in that pussy is mine.” Addy grabs her towel off the floor to cover up with a shocked expression on her face as I gather up all her toys. Closing the drawer with a slam, I grab a bag from the floor, exit the closet, and make my way down the stairs. I only make it half way down before Addy lets out a blood-curdling scream of frustration from the top of the stairs. “You told her she would have to beg, didn’t you?” Heather ask from her place at the breakfast bar as I make my way through the kitchen to the back door. “Yup, and I took all of her toys too. She will be begging for me in no time.”
